RDN looks to gather input on preserving and restoring ecosystems

Plans to restore and protect the French Creek Estuary Nature Preserve is currently being drafted and the RDN wants all input from residents in Electoral Area G.

According to the district, the vision of the plan is to enhance and protect biodiversity by conserving and restoring important natural ecosystems while providing low-impact opportunities for visitors to connect with nature.

The district says they hope the final draft will present a vision for the nature preserve, provide a clear direction for the management, conservation and restoration of ecological resources, and align with the conservation goals and intended purposes for which the nature preserve was acquired.

Residents are encouraged to attend the open house to ask questions and provide feedback in person at the French Creek Estuary on Jun. 22 at 10 a.m.

The draft was done in partnership with the Save Estuary Lands Society, Friends of French Creek Conservation Society, Arrowsmith Naturalists, Mid Vancouver Island Habitat Enhancement Society, Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute and the BC Parks Foundation.

Residents can view and submit their comments online until July 5.
