Three young people in Nanaimo have received an award for their work helping save lives from the ongoing drug crisis.
Nevaeh Thomas, Dannika Gilbert, and Alexa Meekison were recently presented with this year’s Youth Harm Reduction Award from Island Health. The teens created a display board for their school with up-to-date information about getting drugs checked, and preventing drug poisoning.
They also trained more than 20 staff and fellow students at their Learning Alternatives school how to administer naloxone, and help someone suffering an overdose.
The annual award is given to youth under 19 on Vancouver Island who focus on harm reduction in their communities.
