If you are looking to get involved in shaping the future of the City of Nanaimo, then the city has a position for you.
A three-year term, volunteer-based, position has opened for one applicant to be involved on the Design Advisory Panel, which the city says considers development permits in relation to guidelines, principles and conformance with the Official Community Plan.
The panel reports directly to council and according to a media release, they provide independent recommendations to the applicant, city staff and council.
Anyone who sits on the panel becomes intimately familiar with design guidelines, design principles and builds the necessary skills to assist city staff with decisions on future developments. The city says this is an important role, as it will help maintain the high quality of future structures, and that they meet the needs of the community.
Mayor Leonard Krog says all the work done directly impacts everyone in the community, which is why bringing an outsider in is vitally important.
“The work of the panel can have a significant impact on our community,” he says. “I encourage residents with a background in architecture, urban and/or landscape design and development to apply for this important committee.”
The panel meets every second and fourth Thursday of each month, and applications will be accepted until July 5, at 3:30 p.m.
