Nanaimo RCMP arrest man following violent incident with police

Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a man following a violent incident with officers.

Police say the incident happened on April 4 this year in the parking lot of a business at the intersection of Nicol Street and Milton Street, where officers were conducting pro-active patrols in the downtown as part of the Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement Unit.

While patrolling they spotted 32-year-old Chirstopher Yaskow, who was a suspect from a previous incident they were investigating.

After telling him he was being detained, the encounter escalated as Yaskow resisted arrest, resulting in one officer being kicked in the head.

Yaskow was arrested and taken into custody, with officers finding a can of bear spray and a loaded .22 calibre pistol in a cross bag during their search.
