Artists, business and health pros honoured with VIU honorary doctorates

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry was among this year’s recipients of honorary degrees from Vancouver Island University.

Henry was granted the honorary Doctor of Laws for her work and experience in public health, preventative medicine, and her leadership during the pandemic.

Joan Mayo, an historian and author from Duncan, was also honoured with a title. She created the Paldi Historical Museum and has extensively documented the history of the multi-ethnic mill town.

Florence James, a Coast Salish elder from Penelakut Island, was also honoured, and so was Dr. Matt Vickers, an Indigenous businessman, and Robert Davidson, a Haida artist whose work is on display around the world.
