Nanaimo area to see funding boost to protect pedestrians and cyclists

The province says it’s committed to preventing serious injuries and death on BC Roads with more funding from the Vision Zero grant program.

Vision Zero is a community-based grant program that aims to address traffic injuries in underserved communities.

More than $866,000 will be used by local organizations to plan projects that protect vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists and roadside workers.

The city of Nanaimo will put $12,000 towards traffic calming elements on Jingle Pot Road to reduce vehicle speeds and increase pedestrian visibility.

$20,000 will go towards upgrading Traffic signs on the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
