‘Poetry in the park’ program explores how nature inspires art

Next time you’re in Nanaimo’s Bowen Park, keep a lookout for a new art installation by the city’s poet laureate.

Signs with QR codes have been posted at five scenic locations around the park. When scanned with a smartphone, viewers can enjoy virtual poetry readings by Kamal Parmer, inspired by the local scenery.

Parmer hopes her work can encourage people to engage with nature and poetry in new and unexpected ways.

If you can’t make it to the park, Parmer’s work can still be enjoyed on the city’s YouTube channel.
