Library funding agreement ready for final signatures, but no date set

The formal signing of a long-awaited agreement on funding for the Sechelt Public Library is being help up by a scheduling conflict.

The District of Sechelt, the Sunshine Coast Regional District and the Sechelt First Nation’s 5-year “memorandum of understanding” is ready for signature, but a  signing ceremony planned for January 8th is being postponed.

Library Board Chair Dan Fivehouse appeared before Sechelt Council recently to talk about future plans, and praised the stability the agreement is going to bring.

Fivehouse says the MOU also deals with what he calls the “chronic underfunding” of the Library, which in 2012 was only getting about 75 per cent of the provincial average.
