The success of the BC Summer Games and a rise in a new kind of tourism has Tourism Nanaimo examining a new path when it comes to promoting the Harbour City.
Executive Director Lesley Anderson says sport tourism in becoming increasingly popular.
Anderson was before Council this week, talking about how they’re taking over the sport tournament grant program next year and working on the City’s hosting policy when it comes to bringing major sports events to town.
Anderson says the BC Summer Games highlighted the many facilities Nanaimo already has to offer. The legacy from the BC games, meaning the money left over to support other sport related projects in town, is still being tallied up. Final numbers are expected sometime in the fall.
