Some Nanaimo Councillors are suggesting confusion over responsibilities at City Hall may have contributed to a company getting fined for cutting trees.
Maplewood Properties is facing a 10-thousand dollar penalty for taking out trees at a property on Kenworth Road.
Bill McKay sits on the Development Process Review Committee, and he says they’ve been hearing that knowing who to deal with at City Hall is a problem.
Other Councillors say confusion about the rules, and who has authority, could even be the basis for the company to fight the fine in court.
Since a new bylaw was adopted last year the City has levied fines of more than 10-thousand dollars in two other cases.
