Langdale accident outside jurisdiction of BC Safety Authority and WorkSafe

The BC Safety Authority says it won’t be investigating an accident involving a cable-car style lift in Langdale.
The Authority says it doesn’t oversee elevators or lifts in single family homes.
The device at the Tideview Road home was put in to get people up and down a steep slope.

Three people were injured when the cable on the lift broke, and it slid 75 metres down the slope.
A 24 year old man from Coquitlam remains in hospital in stable condition. A 24 year old man and a 22 year old woman from Vancouver were treated and released.
Although it won’t be conducting a full investigation, the Authority says it will be checking into whether the lift was subject to an electrical operating permit.  In a statement for Coast FM News they say they’re “aware of this incident and concerned about the wellbeing of the individuals who were injured.”
The Sunday incident is also outside the jurisdiction of WorkSafe BC.
