Cash box stolen during softball tournament in Nanaimo

There was a major foul during an annual softball tournament at the McGirr Sports Complex in Nanaimo over the weekend.

The cash box with all of the proceeds from the tournament, involving 15 men’s softball teams from across Vancouver Island, was stolen. The $5500 would have been used to pay the umpires and field fees.

Constable Gary O’Brien says the theft was discovered at about 10:30am on Sunday, the last day of the tournament.

O’Brien says they’re asking anyone with information to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers.
