Sunshine Coast RCMP boat search leads to dropped charges 

Charges of uttering threats have been dropped after Sunshine Coast RCMP received a report of a man threatening to shoot people from his boat at the Maderia Park Government Wharf. 

According to a media release police got the call just before 3:00 p.m. on June 14 where the accused was alleged to have been yelling from his boat while brandishing what people thought was a gun.  

Witnesses to the incident say the man appeared to be intoxicated, or in some form of mental distress.  

The release states seven police officers responded to the call and tried to evacuate people in the vicinity.  

Police say they engaged the suspect and was taken into custody without incident.

According to RCMP a search of the boat turned up no ammunition or firearm. The charge was later dropped by crown counsel.
