Former Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed has been selected as the Green Party’s candidate to represent the riding of West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky in next year’s federal election.
The riding association vote was held in two parts last week, Wednesday in Sechelt and Thursday night in Squamish. Melamed beat out Michael Maser of Gibsons for the job. Green Party Leader Elizabeth May says it’s actually the first riding in BC to have a green candidate lined up.
May says the fact that the party’s attracting candidates with former governance experience is a sign of the growth of the Green Party.
Melamed will be up against incumbent Conservative MP John Weston and Liberal Pam Goldsmith-Jones when voters go to the polls on October 19, 2015.
