Police looking for video after hold-and-secure in Nanaimo high school Monday

Police are looking for any video evidence from a hold-and-secure was in place at Nanaimo District Secondary School earlier today.

At around 11 am, a teacher called 911 to report an altercation between several students and a 15 year-old who was not enrolled at the school.

There was a brief melee during which a large knife was seen and a teacher intervened before it could escalate further. No one was hurt in the incident, but the hold-and-secure was in place for about 15 minutes.

The non-student was arrested by police about a half hour later without incident. He’s been released on an Undertaking with Conditions, for one count of Assault with a Weapon. His first court date is set for July in Nanaimo Provincial Court.

Police are asking anyone with video of the incident to call their school liaison officer or Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
