Charges laid after Nanaimo & Oceanside RCMP chase stolen truck

Two people were arrested on Wednesday north of Parksville following a car chase involving Oceanside and Nanaimo RCMP.

Around 3:30am, a witness confronted a man after catching him stealing from the Parksville Industrial Park.

The suspect fled in a stolen pickup, heading south of Highway 19A. Nanaimo RCMP were notified and followed the truck as it turned around and headed back to Parksville.

Oceanside RCMP put down a spike belt at the Northwest Bay Logging Road but the vehicle kept going even with a flat tire. They followed the truck until it lost control and drove into the grass median near Cook Creek.

The driver and passenger were arrested. The driver, a 44 year old man from Bowser, is facing several charges. He was due to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court yesterday.
