Weekend Nanaimo shooting puts one in hospital

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a shooting which happened during the weekend.

On Saturday in the area of Mill Street and Barsby Avenue, at around 3:30pm, officers got reports of an ‘altercation.’

Officers found a group of people in a parking lot on Terminal Avenue, one with a gunshot wound. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital for emergency treatment. According to RCMP, they are believed to be in stable condition and are still in the hospital.

“Investigators believe this incident was the result of a group of individuals who went to the encampment to retrieve stolen property, and as a result, an altercation ensued,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Two other people were brought into police custody on unrelated warrants, and officers investigated a shelterless encampment. A firearm was located.
