Costco bomb threat came from Woodgrove Centre payphone

Nanaimo RCMP say a bomb threat that shut down Costco came from a payphone at Woodgrove Centre.

An extensive 4-hour search of the store on Thursday failed to find anything suspicious.

Constable Gary O’Brien says they’ve managed to trace the call. He says it came from a payphone on the west side of the building near the theatres, from a man using a fake Jamaican accent.

O’Brien says they’re looking into the possibility it was connected to a similar bomb threat called in to the Departure Bay 7-Eleven last Friday but at this point they’ve found no correlation. That call was routed through an IP address in Jacksonville, Florida and the number is associated with various telephone scams.

If you have any information, contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
