The Sunshine Coast-based Salish Sea Coal Committee is continuing its efforts to halt plans for barging coal to Texada Island.
A decision from Port Metro Vanouver had been expected earlier this sping, but persistent questions about health and enviromental impact has slowed the process.
In a update on the Committee’s work for Gibsons council, James Pawley pointed out there’s still been no impact study for the area between the terminals at Fraser Surrey Docks and Texada.

Pawley also says the recent Chilcotin decision on Aboriginal rights and title has given local First Nations the – quote – “strongest catapult in the room” when it comes to potentially blocking the project.
The Sechelt First Nation is already on record as opposing it.
