Elderly man tied up during home invasion in Nanaimo

A 70-year-oldĀ man was tied up during a home invasion in Nanaimo. It happened at a home on Quilchena Crescent around 7:00am on Monday, August 4.

The homeowner woke up after hearing a noise. Using his walker, he made his way to the living room, whereĀ he was forcibly pushed into a chair. A hood was put over his head and he was tiedĀ to the chair. He later told police that he saw a man and a woman, both wearing masks.

While the homeowner was tied to the chair, the male suspect rummaged through the house while the woman stood guard. They found a safe, smashed it open and stole the money and jewelry inside.

The suspectsĀ told the homeowner notĀ call the police. After a few minutes after they left, he managed to get free and called 9-1-1.

Only vague descriptions of the suspects are available. Both were white and in their twenties, and the woman had a slim build.
