A thief was thwarted after trying to make off with money that had just been stolen in a Nanaimo armed robbery on Thursday morning.
Karlee Pelletier was stopped by police after having robbed a Co-op gas station.
She had been told to drop a backpack filled with money taken from the till and while she was being detained a 30-year-old man grabbed the backpack and ran.
Police chased and detained the man, returning the contents of the backpack.
Sergeant Gary O’Brien says he’s just thankful the situation ended quickly and that the stolen money was recovered and returned.
O’Brien says he has seen a lot of weird things but he doesn’t often see the robber ends up being robbed.
Both suspects are awaiting charges in the incident.
