Islands Trust wants environment minister to respect "no artificial reefs" policy

The Islands Trust is wading back into the debate over plans for an artificial reef near Gambier Island.
The Artificial Reef Society of BC has been working for years to sink the former HMCS Annapolis in Halkett Bay.
Trust Chair Sheila Malcolmson says they’re reopening the file after reports the Society may be getting close to having the OK.
Malcolmson wrote Environment Minister Mary Polak this week (see the letter here: ministerpolakannapolis), reminding her of the Trust’s long standing policy opposing artificial reefs.
Malcolmson says the Trust itself can’t block the sinking.
In its latest online update, the ARSBC is saying after work to clean up possible PCB contamination, they’re hoping to Environment Canada’s sign off this month.
