A man has died following an incident with Nanaimo RCMP.
At around 2 pm on Saturday police were called to a confrontation between a man and a woman on Haliburton Street. Police confirmed that the man and woman were known to each other.
After they arrived, the man is said to have produced a weapon, which lead to shots fired by police, injuring him. Paramedics attempted to save the man, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The area was blocked off for investigation.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC has opened an investigation into the incident, which means RCMP won’t be releasing any further update. The IIO release says the man’s family has been notified of his passing.
