Nanaimo SPCA hoping for City money for shelter

The Nanaimo SPCA is looking for 150 to 200 thousand dollars from City to top up the fund for its new facility on Westwood Road (which will be modeled after a new SPCA in Maple Ridge).
SPCA Nanaimo District Manager Leon Davis was before Council this week to make the request.
Davis says with the City on board they’ll be able to start getting bids on the 2.7 million dollar project, and start construction before the end of the year.
He also says their plans for the 6 hectare property will make it a welcome addition to the city.
Davis also says part of the land has potential for another important project; a space to shelter large animals, like horses and livestock.
City staff are studying the request and Council will make a decision later.
