Strathcona Pk search suspended, but efforts to find missing rower continue

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says there’s still been no sign of a man in his 70s who was trying to row solo from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy.
He hasn’t been seen or made contact since leaving Aristazabal Island, about 225 kilometers north of Port Hardy July 11th.  The aerial search resumed Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the massive search for 69 year old Comox Valley hiker Sylvia Apps, missing in Strathcona Park since July 8th, has been formally stood down.

Comox Ground Search and Rescue President Paul Berry says, despite an extensive weekend effort that included 119 searchers from 19 different teams, as well as 50 volunteers and 3 helicopters, there was no sign of Apps.

Crews did find personal items, including her backpack, phone, hiking poles and sweater.

Berry says they will still be accepting tips and information, and will reactivate the search if enough new information comes through.
