Gibsons looking at special development rules to protect its aquifer

Gibsons is looking to create an “Aquifer Development Permit Area” to give more protection to the drinking water source that serves most of the town.
It would mean anyone building in the DPA would have to follow special rules, and in some cases get a permit.
Councillor Dan Bouman is enthusiastic about the idea, but less enthusiastic about giving Town staff authority to issue those permits.  He says that should be up to Council
Creating a special DPA is one of the ideas to come out of a recent project to map the aquifer.  Councillor Gerry Tretick says having everything clearly spelled out, instead of dealing with issues as they come up, will benefit all concerned.
