2014 property assessments are out

The total value of residential properties is down in the Nanaimo Region and on the Sunshine Coast.

BC Assessment released their 2014 “rolls” this morning, and they show what assessors are categorizing as stable or slightly decreased values.

Bill Dawson is the acting assessor for the mid-Island region.  He says the range of minus 5 to plus 5 per cent has been pretty consistent since the big declines hit in 2008.

The value of new construction and subdivisions, which is the number most closely watched by local governments, is just over 115-million dollars on the Sunshine Coast, up about 22-million dollars from 2012.  But, it’s down around 26-million for the Nanaimo region,  which also includes Lantzville and some Regional District rural areas.  It’s 166-million for 2013, but it was 192-million in 2012.

BC Assessment says property owners who feel their assessment does not reflect market value as of July 1, 2013 or see incorrect information on their notice should contact BC Assessment as soon as possible in January.
