The BC Summer Games are officially underway.
A huge crowd packed Rotary Bowl for the opening ceremonies Thursday night, and 3,200 young athletes and their coaches will be putting their skills to the test over the next three days.
In all, around a dozen Sunshine Coast athletes will be competing for the Vancouver – Squamish region team, while more than 100 from the Nanaimo area are part of the Vancouver Island – Central Coast team.
Coast FM caught up with a few of them at the ceremonies.
15 year old Teagan Howden and 14 year old Jordan Allan from Gibsons are on the Zone 5 softball team.
14 year old Reid Dellarosa, is the only athlete from Nanaimo competing in swimming
Dellarosa says he’s looking forward to putting his skills to the test, along with all of the other athletes.
15 year old Tim Walters from Gibsons says he’s been playing baseball for ten years and he’s thrilled to have the chance to compete at the games
And Nanaimo’s Taylor Sayah says she’s excited to check out the competition on the track.
