Ridership up 5.3 per cent on BC Transit buses in RDN

Ridership numbers are up on BC Transit buses in the Regional District of Nanaimo.

BC Transit has just released their annual report for 2013/2014. Corporate Spokesperson Meribeth Burton says they’re approaching 2.8 million passenger trips a year in the RDN, which is up 5.3 per cent from the previous year. There were a total of 2,796,621 passenger trips in 2013/2014, compared to 2,657,328 in 2012/2013.

Burton says the CNG buses are quieter, more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.  She says they expect ridership numbers to continue growing, since the CNG buses were only recently introduced. She says they’re also improving interregional services to better serve areas like Parksville, Qualicum and Cedar.

Ridership numbers for the sunshine coat haven’t been released yet.
