Decision on Colliery Dams still months away, direct action group says it's gearing up for a fresh fight

More than a dozen delegations were on hand Monday night as Nanaimo City Council went over a report on the Colliery Dams, including the head of group threatening to occupy the park – again
Dave Cutts (pictured above) and the Dam Direct Action Group stepped back after plans to completely demolish the dams were abandoned, but he says they’re ready to take up the fight again if Council rushes ahead with options outlined in a technical committee report.
Other delegations also asked Council to take more time and consider other options.  Councillor Fred Pattje says he’s willing.

Pattje, along with councillors McKay and Kipp voted against limiting the City to the Golder Associates plan.  But, after nearly three hours debating the report the majority voted to keep exploring the two options from the engineering firm.  A final decision won’t come until after a public meeting in September.
Council also voted to release all the minutes from the technical committee.
