Island Ferries lease approved, conditional on rezoning

Nanaimo Council has crossed some more Is and dotted a few Ts on the Island Ferries proposal.
They gave first reading Monday night to an amendment to set up the zoning for a ferry terminal on the waterfront.
They also voted to approve a lease deal with Island Ferries on the property.  The lease says the company can’t do anything with the site unless the zoning change gets final approval.  It still has to go through a public hearing.
Island Ferries says it’s going to lease space at the Seabus Terminal for the Vancouver end of the route.
