Committee OKs design for medical marijuana plant in Sechelt

Sechelt could soon be getting a new medical marijuana grower.
Medma Cannabis Pharms wants to set up on an industrial lot off Sechelt Inlet Road.  Before they can do that they need a Health Canada license and approval from Sechelt Council on the design of the building.
After a committee meeting Wednesday Council is poised to give that OK.  Mayor John Henderson says the Health Canada rules go a long way to ensuring medical marijauna facilities will be good neighbours as well as a boost to the economy.
Medical marijuana is one of the businesses District-owned Sechelt Innovations Limited has already said it wants to attract to the area, and Councillor Chris Moore is enthusiastic about the project.
Medma is one of hundreds of companies still waiting for their Health Canada license. A group looking to start a medical marijuana facility in the Port Mellon area is also caught in the backlog of applications.
