Daycare start-up hoping to offer hours that match realities of working life

Councillors in Sechelt are getting behind a group looking for a Social Enterprise Canada grant to launch a daycare.
The Huckleberry Coast Childcare Society wants to have a daycare that’s open early in the morning, late at night, and on weekends.
Nicole Huska is Huckleberry’s business administrator.   She told Council recently that child care options that fit the realities of working life are a key part of a healthy economy.
Huckleberry already has start-up funding from Community Futures and they’ve been working with the Progress Plan, the organization trying to improve the economic outlook for women on the Sunshine Coast.
The District’s role will involve penning a letter of support, and acting as a sponsoring government if the Society gets the money.
