Canada Day festivities on both sides of the Strait

July 1st is Canada’s 147th birthday and there will be plenty of ways to celebrate on both sides of the Strait.

Sechelt Downtown Business Association President Katharine Trueman says it all starts with a pancake breakfast at 8:00am, followed by a performance by the Suncoast Concert Band at 9:30am on Cowrie Street. Trueman says the parade starts at 10:30am, beginning with the bicycle parade and the Sechelt Canada Day Mile.

There are activities from 12-4:30pm at Hackett Park. There are also activates on Cowrie Street and on the vacant lot at Cowrie St and Trail.

The parade route will see the downtown core closed to traffic in Sechelt starting around 9:30am. The route will begin on Cowrie St, and then travel left on Inlet Rd and a left on Dolphin Rd, ending at Hackett Park.

In Gibsons, the celebration is happening at Winegarden Park.

There will also be entertainment on the stage until 3:30pm, and the farmers market vendors will be down at the park for the day.
