Paddleboarders crossing Strait for charity

A group of nine intrepid stand-up paddleboarders will be crossing Georgia Strait from Nanaimo to Vancouver this weekend for a good cause.
They’re raising money for a charity called Ruben’s Shoes, which collects new or gently-used shoes to send to developing countries. The charity is currently working in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, where kids can’t attend school without shoes. So far they’ve raised about $3000 and they’re hoping to reach $5000.
Harry Saini is one of the men making the journey, which could end up being about 80kms depending on the wind and the tide.
They’ll be setting off early Sunday morning from Piper’s Lagoon in Nanaimo between 4:00-5:00am, and ending at Sunset Beach in Vancouver. You can find out more online at Nanaimo2Vancouver.ca
