Oceanside RCMP reminding residents to lock car doors

Oceanside RCMP are reminding people to lock their doors after a rash of thefts from cars.

Between June 18 and 19, items were stolen from more than 15 vehicles in the Chartwell and French Creek area. Only one vehicle was broken into; the others were unlocked.

The stolen items included money and other personal items like sunglasses, iPods, garage door openers, stereo equipment and GPS units.

The investigation and witness reports indicate three young adults, including one male and two females may be responsible. The trio is believed to have come from out of town.

Oceanside RCMP say while many people don’t think locking their vehicle doors is necessary, the statistics show otherwise. There were 270 thefts from vehicles in 2013, and most of the cars were left open. Unlocked vehicles make Oceanside an attractive target for would-be thieves.
