Nanaimo RCMP Superintendent says crime numbers showing the right trends

Nanaimo RCMP Superintendent Mark Fisher says crime numbers in the city are moving in the right direction.

Fisher gave his quarterly update to City Council Monday, and told them recent crime stats are encouraging.

He says Nanaimo’s violent crime severity index is down compared to last year.

Fisher also says while the number of domestic violence investigations has remained constant, calls are at the lowest level they’ve been in 2 years.

He adds he’d like to see more referrals to Nanaimo’s restorative justice program, so they’re bringing in a Restorative Justice Coordinator to talk with the Watch Commanders to refresh their awareness of the program.
