Paddling centre didn't float at Nanaimo Council

Despite a strong show of support, Nanaimo City Council isn’t ready to back a paddling centre.

Several people came out to Monday night’s Council meeting to try to convince the City to add the $4.7 million project at the Brechin boat launch to the priority list.

But they only had one Councillor on side: Diane Brennan.  She cautioned against rejecting the project, even at this early stage.

Council did agree, however, to review the current priority list and get City staff to take a closer look at the paddling centre idea, but there’s no firm timeline.
