Thousands of teachers from across the Island rally in Nanaimo

More than 1-thousand teachers from around the Island turned up at Nanaimo’s Maffeo Sutton Park, Monday calling for a fair deal for BC students.

BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair and the NDP’s Education critic Rob Fleming spoke to the crowd, along with BCTF President Jim Iker.

Iker said teachers would rather be in their classrooms.

Iker said the BCTF will keep pushing to reduce class sizes and close the funding gap with other provinces, which he says are the real issues in the contract dispute – not wages.

Fleming, for his part, took a shot at the government’s recent ad campaign.
