The District of Sechelt is still looking for federal government backing for an airport expansion, and Councillors think a new economic impact study is going to help.
The study, released this week, claims upgrading the airport to meet Transport Canada’s standards for daily scheduled flights could generate around $16-million for the region’s economy.
Including $6.2-million from around 25 jobs at the airport itself and $6.8 in tourism spending and spin-offs.
Mayor John Henderson says those are pretty convincing numbers
The District is still waiting on a report from engineers about the technical end of the expansion project, which could cost nearly $11-million.
