The Town of Gibsons is likely facing a big price tag to deal with the recent e-coli contamination in its water system.
In an update for Council Tuesday night, Director of Engineering Dave Newman said switching Zones 1 and 2 to Regional District water is likely to make up most of the bill.
Other costs are overtime, consultants and installing emergency chlorination equipment.
Council voted to delay $57-thousand worth of projects to free up the money. Mayor Wayne Rowe says that’s pretty much the only option.
A boil water advisory was lifted on Monday, but the Town will have to keep using chlorinated water until the source of the contamination can be tracked down. Town staff are looking into whether the existing filtration on the Well No. 1 water dispenser will meet the standard to allow it to continue offering water direct from the aquifer.
