Leadercast cancellation draws ire of Evangelical Fellowship

Nanaimo Council is coming under fire from some faith leaders after barring an event from the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.
A majority on Council voted in May not to allow “Leadercast” at the City-owned VICC because of the anti-gay stance of one of its sponsors.  They also included any events associated with people or organizations with a history of divisiveness, homophobia or other expressions of hate.  The motion didn’t say how that would be judged.
Darcy Siggelkow of the Nanaimo Evangelical Fellowship went before Council this week, saying that policy would also be discriminatory, and beliefs around same-sex marriage shouldn’t be included.
The Fellowship wants an apology from Council and confirmation that City facilities are open to people of all faiths.
The City has yet to make a response.
