If you’re heading down Island in the next little while the Ministry of Transportation says expect delays.
Work on the Malahat safety upgrades is moving into a new phase, as crews begin rock drilling and blasting to widen the highway between Shawnigan Lake Road and the summit.
The Ministry says crews won’t hold up traffic on Friday afternoons, weekends or the days before or after long weekends, but in off peak travel times drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes.
The speed limit is also being reduced to 60 in the construction zones and the Malahat summit rest area will be closed.
