With one month to go, BC Summer Games still looking for volunteers

There’s exactly one month until the BC Summer Games kick off in Nanaimo, and organizers are making a final push to sign up much-needed volunteers.

Yuho Okada, the Director of Registration, says they only have about 60 per cent of the 32-hundred volunteers they’re hoping for.

Okada says key areas where they need volunteers, included people to welcome the athletes when they arrive, prepare meals, work security and run the opening and closing ceremonies.

Okada says any money remaining from the budget will go into a legacy fund.  Nanaimo had $197,000 left over after the Games in 2002 – the most of any community to ever host the event, and Okada says they’re working to get more sponsors and in-kind cash donations to achieve an even bigger surplus this year

The games run July 17th through the 20th.
