Fast ferry company says they're on track for a deal with City by February

The company looking to bring a passenger ferry service to Nanaimo says talks are continuing with the City, and they hope to finalize a deal in January or February.

Island Ferry Services says that deal – including a lease on terminal space and revenue concessions – needs to be in place before they can get their financial backers on board.

Managing Director Bob Lingwood says although negotiations are going well, the company no longer expects to have ferries on the water this coming spring.

Lingwood says the prospect they might not be operating until after the peak of the summer travel season isn’t a huge concern, because the company’s business plan was built around that possibility.  He also says talks with Translink on setting up the Vancouver terminal at the SeaBus station at the foot of Granville St. are continuing.
