Teachers begin voting on full scale strike

BC teachers begin voting Monday on whether to stage a full scale strike.
If the vote comes back in favour, the BC Teachers Federation could shut down schools as early as June 16th.
The government has gone to the Labour Relations Board to have provincial exams and report cards declared an essential service.
In the meantime, rotating walkouts continue.  Sunshine Coast and Nanaimo Ladysmith teachers will be on the picket lines Wednesday.  Qualicum teachers are walking out Thursday.
The province has managed to get a new deal with another union in the school system.
CUPE, which represents support staff and education assistants, says it has a “framework” agreement for its 27-thousand members.  The framework will now be used to negotiate local deals at the school district level.
The government says the 5 year deal includes wage increases that are “…in keeping with the Economic Stability Mandate”, but the numbers haven’t been released.
