Capilano University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ruby Lake Lagoon Society for students and instructors to have access to the society’s planned PODS research station on the Sunshine Coast.
The Pender Harbour Ocean Discovery Station is expected to be in operation in 2022 at Irvine’s Landing.
Society executive director Dr. Michael Jackson says PODS will offer a home for both marine research and teaching.
Dr. Jackson says the Sunshine Coast has a variety of coastal marine habitats, as well as species at risk.
He also says PODS will offer students a chance to study the environment in coastal watersheds.
Capilano University President Paul Dangerfield says they’re excited about the hands-on learning experiences PODS will offer to their students.
