Rowe has also issued the following official statement on the situation:
“I’m writing to provide an update on the Boil Water Notice since it went into effect Friday afternoon, following a finding, during routine testing, of contamination in our drinking water systems. As soon as we were informed of the results of the testing, we immediately began to notify residents and businesses. In dealing with the issue, the Town followed the required best practices specified by the Vancouver Health Authority’s Drinking Water Officer. Zone 1 and 2 of the systems were isolated, and decontamination began immediately.
Initial investigations indicate that the contamination is limited to the distribution part of the system, and there is no evidence of any contamination in the aquifer, the source of the drinking water itself. I appreciate the diligent work of Town personnel who, throughout the weekend, have continued to sample the system at various locations. Results of tests on these samples are expected in the next few days. Depending on the results of those tests, the Drinking Water Officer will determine the next steps.
The health and safety of our residents is our highest priority; so, until test results indicate otherwise, residents and businesses in zones 1 and 2 need to continue boiling tap water for at least one minute before drinking it.
Further notice regarding the duration of this advisory will be posted as information and test results become available. Please continue to check our Facebook page www.facebook.com/TownofGibsons.”
