Volunteers Needed For Trash Bash

Volunteers are being sought for the Sunshine Coast’s annual Backroad Trash Bash later this month.

The Regional District is looking for 40 to 50 people to help clean-up trash that has been illegally dumped along forest service roads from Half-moon Bay to Roberts Creek.

Since 2012, more than 45-tonnes of junk has been cleaned up in the annual event.

Robyn Cooper, the Sunshine Coast Regional District manager of Solid Wastes says some of the stuff dumped along Forest Roads can easily be disposed of correctly for free under the product stewardship programs.

Cooper says that includes electronics, tires, lead-acid batteries and used paint.

The clean-up takes place on September 21st.

The SCRD is urging business and individuals to come out and do their part to clean up illegal dumping sites.
