New Sunshine Coast Highway, Not in the Cards

At a special meeting of council, Gibsons council reviewed a letter it received from the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure regarding Highway 101.

Gibsons council had sent Claire Trevena a letter expressing an interest in looking at the idea of a new highway between Langdale and Sechelt, to which the minister responded.

She said the province has studied the concept of a new highway between Gibsons and Sechelt and it was found that traffic volumes wouldn’t support the significant construction costs associated with a project like this.

The ministry has also reviewed Highway 101 between Langdale and Sechelt to develop a strategic plan, prioritizing improvements meant to address traffic and safety concerns on the highway.

This study will look at other possible linkages between Gibsons and Sechelt and is expected to be completed later this year.
